The family-owned Sierra Bonita Vineyards last Thursday opened its Tucson tasting room near the entry of the Tucson Country Club Estates.
The Willcox-area winemaker, owned by the family of father-and-son Tucson bankruptcy attorneys John and Gerald Smith, set up the tasting room in a small space adjacent to their law firm at 6720 E. Camino Principal. It’s open from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays to showcase the family’s red wines including its signature cabernet sauvignon and Syrah. They also are pouring samples of white wines from neighboring Pillsbury Wine Co. and Sand-Reckoner Vineyards until their own white wines come in, said John Smith’s wife Jan.

The tasting room will offer two pours and appetizers from Annette Hartman Catering for$12; add three more pours — samples of all five of Sierra Bonita’s vintages — and it’s $20. Single pours and full tastings also are available, and the tasting room has bottles for sale as well.
The Smiths announced plans last October to open the tasting room and had hoped to be open by last November.
