Southern Arizona's impact at the 2010 World Series of Poker gained a huge boost last week with a pair of super-deep runs by players with local ties.
Peter Dufek, who lives in Las Vegas but is originally from Tucson, earned $62,033 for taking seventh in a $1,500 no-limit hold'em tournament at the WSOP, which is being held at the Rio in Las Vegas.
Then, on Sunday, Christopher Greene took home $16,681 for finishing 31st in another $1,500 no-limit hold'em event.
Those two high cashes, the largest by any local players so far this series, has elevated the Southern Arizona contingents' 2010 prize winnings to $148,763. All told 18 different runners have combined to cash 24 times through the first 46 events.
Five players (Sean Getzwiller, Sean Lenning, Troy McClain, Tony Phan and Steve Schulman) have multiple cashes, with Getzwiller finishing in the money three times so far.
