Carlile, a long way
from Plush, to play AVA
Last year, Brandi Carlile rocked the Rialto. She played for two hours and the sold-out crowd went wild.
During her performance — her first in Tucson in many years — she recalled her early years playing at Plush.
“If they could see us now,” she said.
On Wednesday, Aug. 17, the alt-country/rock singer and songwriter from Seattle will perform at AVA at Casino del Sol Resort, 5655 W. Valencia Road.
Carlile’s latest album is the Grammy-nominated “The Firewatcher’s Daughter,” released last year.
“It’s been a really great album to get to play on the road,” she told the Star before her concert here last year. “I’ve been looking forward to it for a really long time and ... I don’t think I’m ever going to get tired of this one.”

Indigo Girls bringing
tight harmonies here
The last time the Indigo Girls were in Tucson, in 2013, they played with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. When they return to the Old Pueblo Saturday, Aug. 13, they will be doing it all themselves on the Rialto stage.
And that works fine for us. The duo — Amy Ray and Emily Saliers — have gorgeous harmonies and their Grammy Award-winning folk rock wafts around you and holds you tight.
It’s no wonder they’ve been nominated for a Grammy six times, winning it once, have made 16 albums (the latest is “One Lost Day”), and had three of those go platinum and three gold.
And the Indigo Girls are as passionate about social issues as they are about music. What’s not to like about them?
The show is 8 p.m. at the Rialto, 318 E. Congress St. Tickets are $32-$52 at 740-1000 or rialtotheatre.com
