The 2026 Open Studio Tours Artist Registration is currently open, and we want Tucson creatives to seize the opportunity. Opening your studio to the public can feel overwhelming, especially for emerging artists. That is why we decided to sit down and talk to Sandra Butler — a local multidisciplinary artist and OST participant from the past year — to hear about her experience with the tour, plus some pro tips just for you.
David Gaxiola (DG): How many years have you participated in OST and what makes you want to come back?
Sandra Butler (SB): Last year was my first year participating in the Open Studio Tours. I’m so grateful for the support of Gia and David and the ease of signing up. I’ve participated in Open Studio tours in previous cities. Tucson made it easy with the valuable amount of organization put in for the artists. I am so grateful for that, the map, signs, even balloons!

DG: Has participating in Open Studio Tours boosted your exposure to new audiences or your sales?
SB: My neighbors knew I was an artist and art professor, but were surprised at the work I created. For me, making those connections and deepening relationships was the best part!
