Maureen Kirk-Detberner moved to Arizona in 1993. She is an IT project manager at University Medical Center, meaning she installs computer systems at the hospital. She also has her own Web-design business, building and maintaining Web sites for nursing organizations and a riding organization, among others.
One of her goals is to sell her photos and incorporate them into the work she does on Web sites.
Kirk-Detberner is also part of a grass-roots effort to have the Wilbur-Cruce Spanish Barb designated as the state horse of Arizona.
"It's like a little bit of history," she said. "It came over (into Arizona) with Father Kino.
"It's very smart and sturdy. And it's able to handle the desert heat."
Kirk-Detberner owns two horses and a pony, but no Wilbur-Cruces at the moment.
