This weekend, Rod Wood will climb behind the wheel of his alcohol-fueled, car-crushing behemoth of a truck - one of six top competitors battling it out in what organizers of the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam call "the ultimate event of intense speed, racing and destruction." The lineup includes the Grave Digger, Spiderman, Batman, Monster Mutt and The Felon along with Wood, piloting McGruff the Crime Dog. The 45-year-old Marana native will drive in all four shows.
A few words with Rod Wood
• "There is nothing on it that's not modified." Wood owns the massive Ford-bodied truck. With its roaring engine and extreme ground clearance, McGruff the Crime Dog Monster truck is a family-run enterprise sponsored by the National Crime Prevention Council in Washington, D.C.
• "You want to make sure you give the fans something to remember you by, whether that's wheelies or big air or something like that."

• "There's really not a bad seat in the house." Look for trucks to get a lot of height at the Tucson show. "We'll be doing a donut contest, too … which is very interesting in the community center because it will actually start smoking all four tires."
