Pima County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez is supporting the City of Tucson’s efforts to switch to all-mail elections.
The Democrat said vote-by-mail streamlines elections and is more convenient, noting just shy of half of all Pima County voters have opted to join the permanent early voting list and pointing out 90 percent of votes cast in the 2009 City of Tucson primary were mailed in.
Rodriguez said it also increases voter participation, with Oro Valley and Sahuarita both seeing upticks. Finally, she said, votes are counted far faster, since transport time is eliminated and there are virtually no provisional ballots.
“Today there is much discussion about streamlining government, cutting costs and improving voter participation,” she wrote in a statement. “Vote-by-mail elections are a simple and clear opportunity to accomplish these goals.”
