Martha Cooper Library in midtown Tucson is re-opening on Tuesday, the county library system said in a news release.
The library, at 1377 N. Catalina Ave., near North Columbus Boulevard and East Speedway, has been closed for nearly two years to accommodate a major renovation.
The Pima County Public Library System says it’s also planning a “grand opening” for the library in November.
Details will be available in the future through the library system’s social media accounts and the Martha Cooper Library Facebook page, as well as on the PCPL’s events page, which can be found at pima.bibliocommons.com/v2/events.

Patrons will find an expanded children’s space with an “enclosed outdoor area” and a dedicated story time space, added study space, upgraded areas for teens and new programming areas that connect to an outdoor, shaded meeting area, according to the release.
The reopening of Martha Cooper Library comes weeks after a cost-saving report from the library system suggested Pima County consider downsizing or closing five libraries across the region — including its main branch downtown.

Since then, the county has said the recommendations are nowhere near certain. They also noted that county supervisors will have the final say before any closures, relocations or renovations occur.
