Nov. 27, 1930: Manuel Duran Moreno is born in Placentia, Calif., to Antonio and Enedina Duran Moreno. He is the eldest of five children.
1949: Moreno graduates from Fullerton Union High School in Fullerton, Calif.
1953: He graduates from UCLA with a bachelor of science in business administration.
1953-55: He attends Our Lady Queen of Angels Seminary, in San Fernando, Calif.
1955-61: Moreno attends St. John's Seminary, in Camarillo, Calif.
April 25, 1961: He is ordained to the priesthood at St. Vibiana Cathedral, in Los Angeles.
1961: Moreno does post-ordination studies at North American College in Rome.
May 4, 1974: He is elevated to chaplain of His Holiness and received the title of monsignor.

Dec. 20, 1976: Moreno is elevated to the episcopacy by Pope Paul VI.
Feb. 19, 1977: He is consecrated a bishop at St. Vibiana Cathedral.
Jan. 12, 1982: Moreno is named the fifth bishop of Tucson by Pope John Paul II.
March 10, 1982: Moreno is installed as bishop of Tucson at St. Augustine Cathedral in Tucson. He is the first Hispanic bishop for the Diocese of Tucson, and only the sixth in the United States. A community installation ceremony takes place the following day at the Tucson Community Center, and is attended by nearly 9,000 people, including his mother, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.
1984: The diocese begins construction on a $1.3 million TV station, KDTU-TV, which goes on the air in September.
1988: The TV station no longer can afford to operate and goes off the air. The diocese is reported to be $30 million in debt.
1989: A financial oversight committee is set up by the Vatican to monitor the diocese's budget.
1990s: Claims of sexual abuse by clergy are made by several altar boys. The diocese pays $155,000 to settle eight claims.
2000: The financial oversight committee disbands, saying the diocese's financial status is sound.
June 2000: Moreno participates in a Friday Shabbat service at Tucson Temple Emanu-El, making him the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Tucson to share in a Jewish service.
October 2001: Citing health problems, Moreno announces that a coadjutor bishop, Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas, will share duties with him.
January 2002: An out-of-court settlement is reached with 10 men who say they were abused by four local priests and with the men's families. The settlement is for $14 million, but the amount paid by insurance is not disclosed.
March 2003: Moreno announces he is taking early retirement. He is suffering from Parkinson's disease and prostate cancer.
Nov. 17, 2006: Moreno dies at his Tucson home, four days after undergoing surgery to relieve pressure in the brain caused by bleeding.
