Author will explain rainwater harvest
With the National Weather Service recording a rainfall deficit of more than 3 inches so far this water-year, we need to to catch all our raindrops when it rains again.
Brad Lancaster will present "Rainwater Harvesting for Dry Lands: Turning Water Scarcity into Water Abundance" from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Murphy Wilmot Branch Library, 530 N. Wilmot Road. Using a slide show, he'll explain the tools and techniques to have sustainable water systems for your home, landscape, and community.
He will also be available to sign copies of his books, "Rainwater Harvesting For Drylands: Guiding Principles To Welcome Rain Into Your Life" and "Landscape, and Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands: Water-harvesting Earthworks."

Tuller school opens Learning Center
Abbie Loveland Tuller School will launch the new Tuller High School Learning Center, in partnership with Arizona Virtual Academy, at the school at 5870 E. 14th St. The school will provide a structured learning environment for high school students to complete their independent studies.
Young adults will have the opportunity to complete the curriculum provided by the Arizona Virtual Academy with the mentorship of experienced teachers. They may also participate in the extracurricular activities offered by Tuller, including sports, art, music, and chapel.
In a press release, Tuller's principal, Sister Alicia Torres, said, "This program will give parents the support necessary to home-school their children in a safe and monitored environment away from home."

Water treatment facilities tour free
Tucson Vice Mayor Carol W. West is inviting the public to accompany her and Tucson Water staffers on a free tour of three water treatment facilities: the Clearwater Recharge and Recovery Facility, the Hayden-Udall Treatment Plant in Avra Valley and the Sweetwater Wetlands.
The tour will leave at 8 a.m. Saturday from Desert Christian High School, 7525 E. Speedway. Attendees will be transported via SunTran bus and will return to the school parking lot at about 1 p.m.
Space is limited. Call the Ward 2 Council Office at 791-4687 to make a reservation.
Tour participants must wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. They should also bring a hat, sunscreen and bug repellent. Cameras and binoculars are permitted.
Water will be provided, but participants may want to pack a snack. They should be able to walk at least one-fourth of a mile without assistance. Children under age 14 are not permitted on the tour.
