Niagara County had no Covid-19 deaths this week, while only 0.62% of the people tested for the new coronavirus actually had it.
It was the lowest weekly infection rate since the pandemic began, The Buffalo News calculated using county Health Department figures.
Only 28 positives were found among 4,516 tests analyzed in the county this week, the Health Department said.
"The numbers continue to go in the right direction," Public Health Director Daniel J. Stapleton said.
But he warned, "If we don't handle the schools correctly and we don't continue to follow the rules, that increases the risk for everybody."
The county has recorded 99 deaths and 1,520 positive tests for the virus since March. There has been one death this month.
As of Friday, the county reported 31 patients with active cases, three of whom are hospitalized. Last Friday, there were 52 active cases, four in hospitals.
