One person was killed and another critically injured early Tuesday when a driver lost control and smashed a car into a building, deputies say.
The one-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Aviation Parkway at Technical Drive, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
Investigators say a black Dodge Charger was being driven at a high speed east on Aviation. The driver lost control at a curve, crashed into a building in the 3700 block of East Technical Drive, while hitting concrete barriers, several signs and a light pole on the way, the department said.
The two people in the Charger were thrown from the car. The driver, whose name was not released, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
The passenger, later identified as 26-year-old Nicole Gutierrez, was declared dead on scene, the news release said.
