NORTH TONAWANDA – Residents have become a little weary of welcoming new faces to the Common Council, after seeing the alderman-at-large seat turn over a number of times in the past year and a half, but newly selected Alderman-At-Large Robert E. Pecoraro said he is here to stay, both in the seat and in North Tonawanda after traveling the world for the past 30 years with the United States Air Force.
He will be sworn at the next council meeting on Tuesday and replace Malcolm Needler who resigned two weeks ago to take a role as part-time Niagara County personnel officer.
“I’m excited about the opportunity and really appreciate the trust and confidence of the council,” Pecoraro said Wednesday.
Pecoraro, 56, has never held an elected public office, but has served in several top leadership roles with the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a colonel in 2012.

He is vice president of the board of trustees of the North Tonawanda History Museum, secretary of the Military Officers of Western New York and group commander of the Civil Air Patrol of Western New York.
While in the military he served in Operation Desert Storm as a tactical airlift liaison officer to the 3rd Armored Division, was stationed in NATO Military headquarters in Belgium and in the Combined Forces Command headquarters in Seoul, South Korea.
He said he and his wife, Laura, have traveled the world but chose to make their permanent home in North Tonawanda, where he grew up and lived from 1961 until joining the military in 1982. His wife is originally from North Carolina, and they have three grown children.
