The main corrals at Alisos Ranch are called the Granger Corrals, apparently after movie star Stewart Granger.
Granger ("Caesar and Cleopatra," 1945) owned the neighboring Kino Springs Ranch near Nogales with his wife, fellow Hollywood star Jean Simmons ("Spartacus," 1960). Simmons had eloped to Tucson to marry Granger in 1950, the Reel Classics Web site says.
John "The Duke" Wayne was then such a frequent visitor to Kino Springs that a cottage was always reserved for him, Star archives show.
Saturday was branding time at Alisos Ranch near Patagonia, on which ranchers Duncan and Susan Blair and their company, La Chamba Livestock, manage 11,500 acres under a U.S. Forest Service grazing permit.
Alisos is named for its sycamores, Duncan Blair says, which gives you a sense of the scenery at the historic ranch. Ranching in the area generally dates back to Spanish land grants.
