Nearly a dozen women added three dishes to their cooking repertoires last week during a "Spice Up Your Life" Cooking Around the World class.
The series of classes, which continues today and the following two Thursdays, is being presented by the Women's League of Congregation Anshei Israel in the congregation's kosher kitchen, 5550 E. Fifth St.
It's taught by Gail Mordka, a volunteer and a member of the Women's League.
It took Mordka a little getting used to cooking in a kitchen other than her own, finding the right size skillet, and setting the timers, but once she figured it out she created three tasty dishes.
Mordka's main dish was pan-cooked fish with lemons, green olives and capers. She also made spanakopita, which can be an appetizer or a main dish, along with a colorful couscous-vegetable salad.

The 11 students, who had been taking notes and asking questions, sampled everything. Their comments ranged from "sheer genius" to "fabulous."
The next class is 9:30-11:30 a.m. today and subsequent classes are Oct. 28 and Nov. 4. Cost is $15 per class. Call 745-5550 to register.
