Fly fishing class begins today
Ti Piper of the Arizona Game and Fish Department is conducting a workshop titled "An Introduction to Fly Fishing for Adults" from 10 a.m. to noon today at the Lew Sorensen Community Center, 11100 E. Tanque Verde Road.
The course will teach fishing basics, including lines, leaders, rods, reels, knots and flies, fly tying, fly casting and fly fishing. Piper will also share fish facts and aquatic entomology basics.
Instruction consists of a two-hour class and a four-hour field trip to a local urban lake. All equipment is supplied. If you have your own gear, you may bring it to class for technical evaluation. Do not buy equipment before the first class. Learn first, then shop, then fish.
A fishing license is not required for the field trip. The class costs $10. To register, complete the registration form, available at Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation, 3500 W. River Road, Tucson 85741. Make checks payable to PCNRPR.

AARP center needs volunteers
The AARP Tucson Information Center is seeking volunteers to help staff the center at 6700 N. Oracle Road.
Volunteers are needed to answer phones and assist visitors at the center with information.
The center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. A variety of volunteer shifts are available.

Talk will focus on eye disorder
A free talk about age-related macular degeneration, a leading cause of vision loss, will be given 10:30 a.m.-noon Wednesday at Santa Catalina Villas, 7500 N. Calle Sin Envidia.
Causes of AMD symptoms, current and potential therapies for treating or preventing the condition and tools for early diagnosis will be discussed. The condition affects 1.6 million Americans age 50 and older, according to Prevent Blindness America.
Speakers will be Alan Marmorstein, associate professor in the University of Arizona Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science, and Dr. Harold E. Cross, a clinical professor of ophthalmology in the department.

'Virtual rabbi' is back in town
Congregation Bet Shalom welcomes its "virtual rabbi," David Ebstein, to Tucson from his home in Jerusalem.
Rabbi Ebstein visits the congregation for two weeks each quarter. During this visit the rabbi will conduct religious services and a series of adult education classes titled "Developing a Personal Theology."
