Former Republican City Council candidate Shaun McClusky is no fan of the Occupy movement.
“I think it’s an eyesore to the city,” he said, noting there’s a gem show coming up. “It’s not how you want Tucson to be represented.”
McClusky has taken out a permit for Dec. 28 for both DeAnza and Veinte de Agosto parks — which just happens to be where Occupiers currently have their tents pitched.
Calling his event “Take Care of Tucson,” he’s going to have a food drive to restock food bank pantries after the holidays, there will be no-kill dog and cat shelters available for pet adoption and information will be provided about domestic violence.
“This truly is a community event,” he said, denying that the effort is merely a political statement.
He said he picked those parks in particular because they’re visible to downtown workers and commuters.

McClusky paid $51 in permit fees for the use of both parks. He’s still working on getting the $1 million in liability coverage he needs, but will have that in hand soon.
What about the tents there now? “That’s between Parks and Rec and the Occupy people,” he said, noting he’s hoping campers will be peacefully removed and the parks restored.
After nearly two months of a growing tent city, looks like it takes someone who doesn’t occupy a seat a the council table to do something about the occupation.
