Congressional District 2 is proving pollsters right with predictions of a close race, with a razor-thin margin separating Rep. Ron Barber and his Republican rival, Martha McSally. Â
Barber leads by more than 5,000 votes in the first round of announced results, which reflects votes cast by early ballots.Â
Barber, a Democrat, is seeking his second full term in Arizona's Congressional District 2.
McSally narrowly lost to Barber in a similar match-up two years ago by 2,454 votes.
Ads dominated this race, flooding television airwaves, social media and radio stations.
One estimate suggests $16 million has been spent on television ads in CD2 since the beginning of the year. Â
