"Bob, is there any reason the TV is on?" Debbie hollered to me as I sat on the patio eating breakfast Sunday.
My head was buried deep in the Sports section, so I was startled by her question.
I thought, "Is it silly to feel compelled to turn on the TV and watch a golf match just because it is in your community?"
After enjoying some of the best weather in the world for the last week I have to say, wow, we are so lucky to get to live here. How fortunate that the week we invited the world to come to our community God provided a big slice of paradise on earth.
On Sunday morning the weather had us up and out of the house at 5 a.m. to see the greatest show on earth. The stars were everywhere and the cool, crisp air invigorated our senses.
After coming home I realized I wanted to turn on the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. I am a huge sports fan but watching golf on TV is rare for me.

This was different. Is it silly to feel that because the event is here in Marana that I should watch it on TV?
Maybe one reason would be to boost TV ratings - but quite honestly I don't know how ratings are determined.
Another reason to watch is the fact that this is the best of the best 64 athletes in a particular sport, now boiled down to a final handful. A winner would be determined that day.
But in reality I watched Match Play on TV for neither of those reasons. For me the tournament was about the world coming to my community and why it should.
Last Thursday Debbie and I took a few hours off for "pretend retirement" to go see Match Play in person. After a leisurely breakfast at our home in Oro Valley, the morning rush to the tournament was over. We took a short drive to the amazing place that is the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain.
We spent hours walking around the most beautiful saguaro-filled canyon you can imagine. The amazing views changed constantly as the sun continued its path over the mountains.
So on Sunday morning, I tuned in to watch live coverage of one of the most gorgeous places on earth.
I truly felt fortunate to get to live here and know what it feels and smells like to walk around that special golf course right here in our community.
My thanks to all the folks who volunteered much time and effort to make Match Play a reality.
The event is not just about great golf, but about creating memories for a lifetime.
Enjoy the journey,
Bob
