A wildfire Tuesday near the west gate of Fort Huachuca quickly spread to 2,000 acres, burned at least five houses and injured one person, authorities said.
The Canelo Fire also burned several other structures after it began on private land and spread to Coronado National Forest land, said Teresa Ann Ciapusci, a forest spokeswoman.
One person suffered burns and was taken by helicopter to a hospital, said Laura Sink, a consultant for Sonoita-Elgin Emergency Services. That person's condition was not known.
Fort Huachuca officials closed the post's west gate for several hours and evacuated a nearby training area, according to a post press release.
The gate reopened Tuesday night.
The fire burned more than 2,000 acres. Containment was expected by today.
