Stat book
Sabino junior receiver Shamar Berryhill had 11 catches for 241 yards, with a long of 94 yards and four touchdowns in the Sabercats’ 50-21 win over Safford on Friday. UA offered Shamar, the younger brother of former Arizona receiver Stanley Berryhill, last June.
Marana junior receiver Dezmen Roebuck caught 19 passes for 188 yards in the Tigers’ 42-35 loss to Mountain View. His 19 catches is two shy of the state record, held by three players, including Sahuaro’s John Mistler against Sabino in 1975. UA has also offered Roebuck.
Two Desert View backs rushed for over 150 yards as the Jaguars ran over Nogales 49-13 last week. Junior Kevin Zleh ran for 150 yards on six carries, and sophomore Christian Teah had 166 yards on 15 attempts.
Ironwood Ridge head coach Dale Stott works with a few of his Nighthawks during their pregame drills before kickoff against Buena at Ironwood Ridge High School on Sept. 1. Stott took over the IRHS program prior to last season. The Nighthawks were 1-9 a year ago, but have started 2023 6-1 with eyes on a playoff berth.
Quotable
“These guys were young kids last year,” Ironwood Ridge head coach Dale Stott told AllSportsTucson.com. “We started 10 sophomores on that team. We had one returning senior from the year before, that’s all we had. They were all babies, and they grew up. What they did was work their tails off to earn money for a weight room, they put the money in themselves. Raised the funds and they lived in that weight room.”
Ironwood Ridge beat Douglas 47-14 on Friday to improve to 3-1 and triple its win total from 2022.

Walden Grove went 8-2 last season but missed the state playoffs due in part to a weaker-than-average schedule. Despite 1-2 start (against a touch opening schedule), the Red Wolves are determined not to let that happen again.Â
