When William and Barbara Brady decided to build their home in the Tucson Mountains, west of Tucson, they didn’t just settle for a home. They built themselves a castle and called it Wuestenschloss for castle in the desert.

The Brady Castle in the Tucson Mountains
Their home, situated on 22 acres, included all the standard castle accoutrements, drawbridge, moat, albeit a dry one, and a throne room. There were six bathrooms. It was completed in the early 1970’s.
A castle is a great place to throw a party and the Brady’s held many events and fund-raising galas there. They were host to noted celebrities including Robert Goulet and Carol Lawrence, Barry Newman, Joseph Campanella, Eddy Arnold, Henny Youngman and Anne Francis.

It was an environmentally friendly castle, too. For their pool, the Brady’s installed a solar pool heater in 1974. The water temperature was kept at a warm 88 degrees.
By 1976, though, the Brady’s were ready to relocate their kingdom and the castle was put on the market. The asking price was $875,000. It reportedly sold for $295,000, at an auction in 1977.
