The Forever 21 store in Tucson Mall appears poised to move into the two-story site being vacated by Mervyns.
The owner of the Mervyns store in the mall plans to transfer control of the site and others around the country to the teen clothing retailer, according to documents filed Thursday in Mervyns' federal bankruptcy case.
"Their intention is to occupy that space with their use," Charlie McPhee, senior vice president of development for Macerich, said of Forever 21.
Forever 21 also recently opened a location at Park Place in the space previously occupied by Metro Grill.
Macerich, based in Santa Monica, Calif., is transferring leaseholds on 22 of the 41 Mervyns sites it owns, pending final approval by the District of Delaware U.S. Bankruptcy Court, which is overseeing Mervyns' Chapter 7 liquidation proceedings.
