Evergreen funeral home receives national award
● Evergreen Mortuary, Cemetery and Crematory at 3015 N. Oracle Road has again received the National Funeral Directors Association Pursuit of Excellence Award, earning it a place in the NFDA's Hall of Excellence. The award honors funeral homes nationwide for their service to families, commitment to the community and dedication to upholding the highest ethical and professional standards based on criteria in six categories including family outreach and support and staff development. Evergreen is second among funeral homes nationwide to have received the award the most times.
Innovators honored
A longtime high-tech industry booster, a medical-device startup and the head of a semiconductor technology company were among the Tucson-area honorees last week at the Governor's Celebration of Innovation Awards, held at Pointe South Mountain Resort & Spa in Phoenix. Bob Hagen, chairman of the Southern Arizona Tech Council, was awarded the William F. McWhortor Community Service Leader of the Year Award for his work with the region's high-tech industry clusters and economic development. Tucson-based Medipacs LLC, which is developing portable medical infusion pumps, won the Innovator of the Year Award in the startup category. Doug Goodman, founder and president of Tucson-based Ridgetop Group Inc. and co-founder of the Arizona Nanotechnology Cluster, won a Chairman's Award. Realtors group donates $32K to Habitat
The Tucson Association of Realtors donated $32,572.64 to Habitat for Humanity last week. The money was raised at the association's first annual golf fundraiser, held in late October at the Hilton El Conquistador Country Club. The money raised will allow Habitat Tucson to build about half a house for a needy family in Southern Arizona. Event organizers have pledged to raise enough money to build an entire house by using two golf courses for next year's event.
