Wells Fargo's new ATMs will wash your car and feed your dog while you wait.
OK, we made that up.
But the bank's new ATMs will make it a bit easier to make deposits by taking a sheaf of bills and checks and automatically tallying them.
So-called "envelope-free" ATMs have been around for years, but Wells' new ATMs allow customers to insert mixed stacks of bills and checks without hassling with sorting them.
Seems like a small step, but Arizona's third-biggest bank by assets believes it's a big time- and paper-saver.
After a successful pilot program in Colorado, Wells Fargo is rolling out the mixed-media technology across Arizona, with 495 of the new NCR Corp. ATMs by the end of August.
Customers don't need to write on an envelope or deposit slip or key in a deposit amount. Once cash and/or checks are inserted into the slot (up to 30 checks and bills in different denominations), the machine converts the paper checks into digital images, which appear on the ATM screen and on the receipt. It also sorts and counts the bills and verifies the amount.
