National Read A Book Day is Sunday, Sept. 6, says nationaldaycalendar.com
Granted, we think every day is Read A Book Day, the website says today is all about finding a book to enjoy, finding a nice, quiet and relaxing spot, and reading for a while. (Again, isn't that every day?)
While many of us enjoy reading for relaxation and the pure joy of the written word, the website does point out some benefits of reading:
- It is very good for improving memory and concentration as well as reducing stress.
- Reading books is among brain-stimulating activities shown to slow down cognitive decline in old age with people who participated in more mentally stimulating activities over their lifetimes having a slower rate of decline in memory and other mental capacities.
- Reading is a good way to learn about other times, other places and many other things.
- Reading is very affordable means of entertainment.
People are also reading…
While we believe every day is Read A Book Day, the national day is a good reminder of the benefits of reading.
