Hot off his hosting gig at the Emmy Awards, Nate Bergatze admitted, “I learned THIS is where I belong.”
Performing in the round at the Tyson Events Center Thursday night, he said he thought donating money to the Boys and Girls Club was a good bit — and would have been a way of keeping the show on time. “I thought they would donate. I was wrong.”
And then — Bergatze offered a real rarity — he swore. It was surprising and a great way to break the ice.
Playing to a packed house, he touched on simple things — walking up stairs, messing with computers and date nights (the three choices: movies, restaurants and bowling; “You go to bowling pretty quick”).
Moving around the stage like an attraction at Disney World, Bergatze confessed he had 36 percent body fat. “The body is 75 percent water, so you’re 111 percent fat and water.”

During an examination, he discovered he also had sleep issues. “Did you fight to the death in the middle of the night?” the doctor asked.
Turning to healthy food, he realized vegetables aren’t as messy as pizza or other “good” foods. A question no one asks: “Is that raw broccoli on your pants?”
Other revelations: Sushi didn’t come into his life until 2008 “and it’s 2,000 years old — invented before fire.”
“I didn’t have a raspberry until I was 40 years old.”
Family matters prompted several great stories about his sister. He said she brings up a sleepover decades after it happened. “At a boys’ sleepover, they break stuff. At a girls’, lives are shattered.”
If you happened to see Bergatze previously, you realized he has found his own sense of style — shades of black and gray.
He also has discovered his own Seinfeld way of making his life similar to yours. Married 19 years, he said he and his wife finally went to marriage counseling. Nothing was wrong, but he thought they should try it. “You’ve been alone for 19 years and you want to go, ‘Wait, is that crazy?’ One of us is insane. Who is it?’” A therapist could second the motion, he figured.
Among his wife’s concerns: Nate walks ahead of her. “Should I slow down?,” The picture he painted was worth the money he spent.
Bergatze also touched on the differences that have colored his life since success came calling.
Hanging with stars, getting invited to celebrity golf events, having moments that others only dream about, come with their problems, too. Using texts from his sister (who gets the benefits), he found the laughs and offered proof success hasn’t changed the new man in black.
Now an arena act, Bergatze adapted well and confirmed he’s still a regular guy, just one playing in bigger venues.
The new look suits him to a T.
Sort of like a “Big Dumb Eyes” hoodie.
