Pierce Brosnan, the Irish actor who starred in four James Bond films, has been cited for allegedly skirting travel regulations in Yellowstone National Park.
The 70-year-old Brosnan was charged on Dec. 26 in U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming with traveling off a trail in one of the park’s thermal areas and not adhering to the park’s closure and limited use notices.
The more than 2 million-acre park contains thousands of hydrothermal features, including geysers, hot springs and fumaroles. Park officials constantly warn visitors to keep to the boardwalks that snake around these areas, as some of the hot springs can reach temperatures of nearly 200 degrees while steam vents can be as a hot as 245 degrees. More than 20 people have died by falling into Yellowstone National Park’s hydrothermal features. The organic soil around thermal features can also be fragile and take decades to be restored.

The federal government is tasked with law enforcement in Yellowstone National Park, specifically through U.S. District Court and National Park Service Law Enforcement Rangers.
Brosnan, who lives in Beverly Hills, California, was in Montana earlier this year to star in a Western being filmed at the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Paradise Valley, the Livingston Enterprise reported. He is scheduled to make his initial appearance in court Jan. 23.
