Time was when the Miracle Mile business area was the glittering entertainment strip in Tucson.
The motor courts — you didn't really call them motels then — had an aura about them that beckoned travelers as they entered the city on old U.S. Route 80.
Learn more about those days and the history of the area at the Second Annual Historic Miracle Mile Open House and Tour from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Hosted by the Oracle Area Revitalization Plan Citizen Steering Committee and the Gateway Business Alliance, the event will feature tours of those historic motor courts and the Ghost Ranch Lodge cactus gardens.
Free parking will be available at Pima Community College's Downtown Campus, 1600 N. Oracle Road. Begin the tour at College Place, 1601 N. Oracle Road, where an illustrated talk on Miracle Mile will be presented.
