Extremely IN for 2005
● Color
- Bold and bright, deep and dark, it doesn't really matter. Use it on walls and alcoves, add splashes of color with rugs and pillows.
● Enviro-friendly
- Upgraded windows and blinds, solar power, and better heating and cooling systems that save on energy.
● Fashion-victim bedrooms
- Beading, sequins and embroidery are coming off the clothes rails and onto bedding and pillows.
● Teens
- They want to dress their rooms like they dress themselves. (Parental warning: They can change their mind on interior design as quickly as they can their wardrobe.)
● Wallpaper
People are also reading…
- Make that textured wallpaper. Don't think flock floral coverings - it's more neutral browns and beiges that give an Asian look, or deep colors used in small spaces.
● Concrete
- Scored concrete floors are easier to install and take care of than tile. And you can have it colored to order.
Like, SO out
● Beige and white paint
- Boring, say designers. Spice it up with color instead.
● Kitschy Southwestern
- Out with the cactus ornaments, pieces of ladder and rope and striped hanging rugs. In with concrete, wood beams, bright sunset colors and cool blue and green hues.
● Bling
- Paris Hilton and the like may be dominating headlines and ratings, but throwing money around inside the home is a definite no-no. Instead, we're going for subtle and practical.
● Clutter
- We're ditching patterns, frills and lots of accessories and becoming more streamlined. Be bold with just one or two colors and a handful of striking objects.
● Linoleum
- It may be making a trendy comeback in the big cities, but Tucson still loves its hard floors. Here, concrete, wood and tiles still rule.
Home is where the ratings are
● This year will see even more home-oriented shows on television.
TLC
● TLC's "Trading Spaces," where neighbors do up each other's homes, will continue to air new episodes at 10 p.m. Saturdays. The channel also has a few specials planned:

● "Trading Spaces: Through the Roof," a two-hour special with the entire cast of the show (instead of just a pair), airing on March 5.
● In "Town Haul," which also kicked off Saturday, designer Genevieve Gorder helps make over entire towns. The show repeats at 6 p.m. Saturday.
● A new show called "Moving Up" premieres at 9 p.m. Saturday. It follows three families through the process of moving and lets them take a look at what the new occupants have done to their old homes.
HGTV
● "Design Remix," 9 p.m. Saturdays, is a new series about how to breathe new life into interiors on a $50 budget.
DIY Network
● The DIY Network launches "Restoration Realities" on March 6. The show will follow homeowners' step-by-step challenges in restoring old homes.
