The Downtown youth center Skrappy’s is going underground, at least for a few months.
The center is moving in to the basement of another Downtown building while the search continues for a new location.
Skrappy’s will close at 201 E. Broadway Blvd Friday, Sept. 29. It will reopen Oct. 9 in the 3,000 square-foot basement of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson building at 160 E. Alameda St., said Angela Hagen, a spokeswoman for Our Family, the parent organization for Skrappy’s.
Our Family services has a three-month lease for the building with an option to continue the lease for two months, while the agency and the city search for a permanent home for Skrappy’s, said Kathy Wooldridge, program coordinator for Skrappy’s.
“With our budget, it would need to be an older building that needs to be brought up to code,” Wooldridge said.

No concerts will be allowed in the new space. Other programs, such as breakdancing and after-school recreation, will resume as usual, Wooldrige said.
