A panel of Tohono O’odham leaders has named Joseph Delgado the chief of the reservation’s police force.
The decision to make Delgado police chief came after an extensive four month search, according to a Tohono O’odham Nation press release issued Wednesday.
Delgado had been serving as interim chief. He is an enrolled member of the Tohono O’odham Nation and joined the Tohono O’odham Police Department in June 1992.
He was promoted to sergeant in April 1997 and became a lieutenant two years later. Delgado held the position of assistant chief from July 2002 until Nov. 2007 when he was made interim chief, according to the press release.
Former Chief Richard Saunders stepped down from his position in November to pursue other job opportunities, according to information released at the time.
