GILBERT — Gilbert police are investigating an assault against two teenagers who say they were attacked because of their religion.
Over the weekend, the victims said they were sitting in a city park when a pair of teens approached them and asked whether they were Mormon, according to a police report released Monday.
When the victims answered that they were Mormon, the teenage suspects allegedly made anti-Mormon statements and shot at them with a pellet gun and physically attacked them, according to the police report.
One of the victims, a 15-year-old, was transported to an area hospital with facial injuries.
The suspects were booked into the Maricopa County Juvenile Detention Facility on charges of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and consumption of alcohol under the age of 21, according to the report.
