Four suspects trying to smuggle $846,000 worth of drugs into the United States were arrested in separate incidents last weekend at Southern Arizona ports-of-entry.
Friday a 57-year-old Mexican man was arrested at the Nogales port after a narcotic detection dog alerted to the presence of drugs within the rear and spare tires. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found 22 packages of meth worth more than $536,000, Rob Daniels, spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, said in a news release.
At the Douglas port Friday, an 18-year-old Mexican man was arrested after a narcotics dog detected drugs in his Dodge pickup truck. Officers found 25 packages of marijuana weighing 176 pounds hidden underneath the hood and within the vehicles’ spare tire, Daniels said. The street value was estimated at $88,000.
Saturday, officers arrested a 20-year-old Douglas man after a Border Patrol dog alerted to drugs throughout his Chrysler coupe. Officers removed 166 packages of marijuana, weighing more than 236 pounds and valued at more than $106,000, from throughout the vehicle. Drugs were found inside the dashboard, doors, back seats, floor, and the trunk, Daniels said.

On Sunday afternoon, officers referred a 28-year-old Mexican woman for additional inspection of her Dodge van after a narcotics dog alerted to the presence of drugs. Officers found 127 packages of marijuana in the van’s interior ceiling, side door, dashboard and front bumper, Daniels said. The drugs weighed nearly 258 pounds and had a street value of more than $116,000.
