Detectives are canvassing the midtown neighborhood where a young Tucson girl went missing almost two years ago trying to stir up new information in the case, a department spokesman said.
On April 21, 2012, Isabel Celis, then 6, disappeared from her home near Broadway and Craycroft Road. At the time, police followed up on thousands of tips, but they have had no major breaks in the case.
Wednesday afternoon detectives returned to the neighborhood to see if neighbors can provide any new information, said Officer Brandon Tatum, a spokesman for the Tucson Police Department.
Detectives will canvass the area on foot through Saturday, “talking to the neighbors, just trying to see if they have anything new going on,” Tatum said.
The effort has been in the works for a while, Tatum said, but he had no further information.

Police Lt. Elise Souter said the department has not received any new information about Isabel's disappearance but felt that it was time to return to the neighborhood to re-interview residents.
Detectives are asking if they had seen anything suspicious or unusual in the time since the girl went missing.
Souter said the department has assigned new detectives to the case to help the original detectives in order to get a fresh look at the case.
Isabel's family was notified of the new effort, she said.
She said officers will be rechecking with residents in the neighborhood every day until Saturday from noon to around 10 p.m. A department command post has been set up.
Isabel Celis was reported missing from her midtown home on April 21.
