Nourishing children, strengthening futures
For 50 years, the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona has stood beside our neighbors in times of need, ensuring families across Southern Arizona have access to nutritious food and compassionate support.
As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we are reflecting on the impact we’ve made together. Few parts of our mission are more important than ensuring children have the nutritious food they need to grow, learn and thrive.
Because hunger should never be part of childhood.
At the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, we believe no child should have to wonder where their next meal will come from. Yet across Southern Arizona, too many families are facing impossible choices as food costs continue to rise and household budgets are stretched thin.

That’s why our Child Nutrition Program exists: to help ensure children have consistent access to healthy food throughout the year.
For many children, school meals may be the most reliable source of nutrition they receive during the day. But hunger doesn’t disappear when the school bell rings. What happens after school, on weekends, during school breaks and throughout the summer, when many families struggle to keep nutritious food on the table?
Our Child Nutrition Programs help bridge those gaps by providing healthy meals and snacks through community partnerships, youth programs, after-school sites and summer nutrition kit efforts across Southern Arizona.
Every meal represents far more than food on a plate. It represents a student who can focus in the classroom, a child with the energy to play and learn, a parent with one less worry, and a stronger, healthier community.
Through our network of schools, partner agencies, community organizations and dedicated volunteers, we work every day to ensure nutritious food is accessible, welcoming and provided with dignity to every child and family we serve.
Whether it’s a healthy snack after school, nutrition kits during the summer months or support during times of crisis, our goal remains simple: to make sure every child has the food they need, every single day.
The importance of nutrition for growing minds and bodies
Good nutrition fuels far more than growing bodies. It supports healthy brain development, improves concentration, strengthens emotional well-being and helps children succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Research consistently shows that children with reliable access to nutritious food are better equipped to learn, build resilience and develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime.
Our Child Nutrition Programs would be possible without the extraordinary support of volunteers, donors, schools, community centers, partner agencies and advocates who have stood beside us throughout the past five decades.
As we honor this milestone anniversary, we also celebrate the people who have made this mission possible and the generations of children whose lives have been touched through compassion, generosity and care.
Looking toward the next 50 years
While we are proud of how far we’ve come, we know our work is far from finished.
The next chapter of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona will continue to focus on expanding access to nutritious food, reducing barriers, strengthening community partnerships and ensuring every child and every family can receive the nourishment they need with dignity.
Because every child deserves the opportunity to thrive today, tomorrow and always.
Thank you for being part of these first 50 years of impact.
Together, we can build a future where no child in Southern Arizona experiences hunger.
