A Tucson woman has been named 2006 State CASA of the Year, an award for volunteer advocates who care for the needs of children in foster care and represent them in court.
Barbara Himebaugh, an 18-year CASA veteran, was honored Thursday at a recognition luncheon hosted by the CASA Support Council for Pima County volunteers, said a county Juvenile Court press release.
As a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer, Himebaugh has been assigned to 16 cases, serving 34 children, the release says.
"For 18 years, Barbara has performed her CASA duties with indefatigable strength of character, kindness, integrity and professionalism," the release quoted Trish Biddix, the Pima County CASA program supervisor, as saying.
The program has almost 250 volunteers who advocate for some of more than 3,100 foster-care children in Pima County.
