Find out why trains are important to Tucson this Saturday — or any Saturday, for that matter — at the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum.
Railroads had a huge impact on Tucson and changed the city forever, said Laura Caywood Barker, museum director.
"We were able to get goods and services quicker and Tucson grew because of the railroads," she said. "If the railroad was placed further north, Tucson would probably be a ghost town."
The exhibit has audiophones with recordings of humorous stories about the different railroad jobs, and a media wall with videos and still photography.
The gates to Locomotive 1673 are usually locked, but on Saturdays a volunteer unlocks them and is available to answer questions.
