U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords looks cheerful and alert in a promotional video for an upcoming interview with Diane Sawyer, which is scheduled to air Nov. 14.
In the footage released by ABC, the 41-year-old congresswoman is with her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, and appears to be speaking.
Giffords' chief of staff Pia Carusone on Thursday said it's "not a full-length interview."
The congresswoman has not spoken publicly since she was shot through the left side of her brain during an assassination attempt Jan. 8 in Tucson. The injury affected movement on the right side of her body, as well as her speech.
Giffords spokesman Mark Kimble had previously said that the congresswoman would be the one to decide her level of participation in the special.
The third-term Democratic congresswoman from Tucson appears in the promo video wearing glasses, a mustard-colored jacket and a smile, and is seated close to Kelly during a session with Sawyer. The advertisement promotes the special as "the most extraordinary story you'll ever hear."
