1870: Gov. Anson P.K. Safford comes out of the mountains with the Territorial Militia after a 26-day campaign between the San Pedro and Santa Cruz rivers without having seen a single Apache.

1921: There are 963 students enrolled at the University of Arizona.
1935: J.J. Garfield, building contractor, held up and robbed of $2,000 payroll at University of Arizona campus by two men identified as ex-convicts.
1939: Registration at University of Arizona reaches 2,432 mark.
1948: Tucson building pace doubles that of Phoenix.
1974: Seizure of 19 tons of marijuana being smuggled into U.S. (biggest single haul of pot in U.S. law enforecement history.)
