U.S. law enforcement found a collapsed border tunnel in Douglas this week.
The discovery was made by a resident who entered a rental house and saw a hole in the floor about 14 inches in diameter, said Vincent Picard, Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman. The resident called Douglas police, who alerted federal authorities.
It appears the tunnel extends about 25 feet south of the house, though authorities are not yet sure because the tunnel was collapsed, Picard said. Mexican authorities have not yet found an entry point on the Mexican side, either. "Whether it's complete and active or whether it's partially complete is the $64,000 question," Picard said.
The rental house where the tunnel was found is just feet from the international border and east of the Douglas Port of Entry on C Avenue and International Street.

The U.S. Border Patrol is in the process of sealing up the tunnel, Picard said.
