Through renewed investigation, Tucson police identified a suspect who fled the country after a killing more than three decades ago.
In March of 1995, Luis Gustavo Suchite, 38, was found shot in an apartment complex near East 29th Street and South Columbus Boulevard, police said in a news release.
Suchite died at the hospital.
Detectives identified Suchite's former roommate, Jose Luis Mota, as a possible suspect. The pair had a falling out, and Mota had moved out not long before the shooting, the release said.
Police issued an arrest warrant for the then 20-year-old.
But it was too late. Police couldn't find him.
Investigators assumed Mota had left Arizona, maybe even the country.
During a cold case review this year, detectives discovered the name Mota was an alias, the release said.

Through new interviews with the suspect's family, detectives identified him as Guillermo Enamorado-Flores, the release said.
Police determined Enamorado-Flores fled to his native Honduras shortly after Suchite's killing.
In July of that same year, four months after the killing in Tucson, Enamorado-Flores died in a crash, the release said.
Police are sharing the new findings with the Pima County Attorney's Office, and they expect the case to finally be closed.
