Thirty hungry people took part in Montana Avenue's $30-per-person "Simply Summer Cooking Demonstration" Sunday.
The class was conducted by Fox Restaurant Concepts corporate chef Clint Woods and Wildflower Pastry Chef Karen "Spike" Ames, who demonstrated a three-course meal of iceberg wedge cobb salad, seared scallops and a duet of classic strawberry shortcakes and strawberry rhubarb crisp.
Woods walked around the table with a pan of crackling seared scallops while eager students oohed and ahhed. Patricia Murray and her husband, Richard Murray, were excited by how much they learned.
"I love the class. It's so much fun. We are already going to sign up for the next one. Not only are you learning about some wonderful dishes that you may not cook on your own, but you are also getting to eat them, so it's fabulous," Patricia said, as stacks of notes surrounded her seared scallops.

"These people here are all our regular guests, so its nice to give them something back, something they can use," Steen said.
