A Marana High School student was found dead by two staff members on campus Tuesday morning.
Marana Police Department responded to a call at 6:47 a.m. after a body was discovered on school grounds, the department said in a news release.
Preliminary information indicates the student broke into the campus about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Classes were canceled Tuesday at Marana High School after authorities said a student's body was found on the campus.
“We are heartbroken, and we know this news has landed as a profound shock to our entire community,” Marana Unified School District said in an email statement to school families. “Grief and shock can show up in different ways and at different times. Please be gentle with yourselves and with each other.”
The high school, located at 12000 W. Emigh Road, near North Sandario Road, was deemed ‘safe,’ but remained shut down Tuesday due to the ongoing investigation, Marana police said in the release. Classes will continue as scheduled Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing, but police say they are not actively looking for a suspect.
“The district crisis response team will be on campus again tomorrow to support both students and staff, and will remain available in the days ahead for anyone who needs them,” the district said.
