The second in the Friends of the Kirk-Bear Canyon Library's "Musical Bear" free concert series will feature harmonica virtuoso Pierre Herbineaux, aka "Harmonica Pierre," from 3 to 4 p.m. Aug. 25.
The library is at 8959 E. Tanque Verde Road.
People might recognize Herbineaux from "America's Got Talent" - he was a quarterfinalist on the television show in 2010.
Born in Brussels, Belgium, Herbineaux originally studied the violin. He fell in love with the sound of the harmonica at age 15 after hearing world-renowned harmonica player Larry Adler.
Herbineaux taught himself to play the harmonica using his violin method books.
He ended up as the soloist for the Trio Candido, which won the Harmonica World Championship in 1957.
Tucson composer Jay Vosk wrote for Herbineaux a concerto for harmonica and orchestra, which he premiered in 1993 with the University of Arizona's all-electronic Orchestra Nova conducted by Timothy Kolosick.
