Dirt is flying on the Kino Parkway-22nd Street intersection project.
If you drive in the area, here's what you need to know.
WORK SO FAR
Preliminary demolition is done and drainage and utility work is ongoing, said city project manager Fred Felix.
Crews are installing culverts and upgrading water mains, he said.
They're also building new side streets to improve traffic circulation for area businesses and neighborhoods.
WHAT'S NEXT
Plans call for an overpass to take traffic on Kino over a wider 22nd Street.
But before a bridge can be built, traffic must be removed from Kino. So crews will build a detour road along the west side of Kino, Felix said, keeping two lanes in each direction with left turn lanes at the intersection.

The detour road and a temporary traffic signal will be in use in January, he said.
Then crews can start building the bridge, which will take six months to a year. The whole project will take 2 1/2 years.
