Scott and Lynn Laos, with the help of the community, have been working to build Tucson's first BMX freestyle park, and their hard work has started to pay off.
A sign dedication ceremony for the future site of the Kory Laos Memorial Freestyle BMX Park, and a celebration of Kory's 18th birthday, was held May 8.
The event was held at 5510 N. Shannon Road, across the street from the future site of the park.
Construction will begin over the summer on a temporary dirt-bike park. The community is invited to help build the park; for more information e-mail Jenna Simons at jsimons@ppep.org.
The bike park is located off the Rillito River Park and can also be accessed from the future northwest bike corridor.
The permanent bike park's construction is pending a bond election scheduled this year.

The mission stemmed from Kory Laos' death. On May 4, 2007, he was struck by two SUVs and killed while bicycling near the University of Arizona campus.
His parents hope to save kids by providing them with a safe place to practice their BMX skills.
"Kory would still be with us today if such a place had existed for kids to ride," said Scott Laos.
