Police: Man killed girlfriend, baby, then himself

Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at about 1:30 a.m., and found the body of Heather Marcucci, 34, near a car in the front yard of her rental home in the 1300 block of North Bonanza Avenue.

The house, located in a desert area, is just north of an apartment complex on East Speedway near North Harrison Road, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Not far from Marcucci, officers found the body of Marcucci’s 7-week-old son, Jase David DeBaker, still strapped into his car seat.

Officers then found the body of Jeremy DeBaker, 21, who is believed to have killed his girlfriend and their baby boy before killing himself.

Two dogs were also found fatally shot.

Police initially went to the apartment complex after several emergency calls reporting gunshots, but officers did not find a crime scene, Dugan said.

The TPD helicopter unit, however, soon spotted bodies in the front yard of the house and directed officers to the property of the gated ranch house, Dugan said.

Officers climbed over the fence and found Marcucci dead in the yard. They also found her dead son, who was near Marcucci. The officers then found the two dead dogs.

As they made their way to the front of the house, they found DeBaker, also fatally shot.

No one else was found on the property, Dugan said.

Homicide detectives are working the case as a double-murder and suicide, and ask anyone with information to call 911 or 88-CRIME.

No suicide note was found, Dugan said.

The couple, who were renting the home, had no history of domestic violence, Dugan said.

Investigators do not know the motive for the slayings and suicide, he said.

“We do not know what they were talking about before the shooting,” Dugan said.

No further information was released about the couple. There did not appear to be any online court records for either DeBaker or Marcucci.

Relatives were not able to be reached for comment.
