FOREST LAKES - A wildfire burning near Forest Lakes on top of the Mogollon Rim has led to voluntary evacuations.
People at the Dutch Joe Ranch were asked to leave the area, but so far the ranch is refusing to evacuate, said the U.S. Forest Service. According to the Forest Service, only a handful of people work at the ranch.
The Vincent Fire is burning in the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest and has charred over 200 acres, the Forest Service said. Wind has been a problem for fire crews battling the flames.
The wildfire is burning in what is described by fire officials as dead and downed ponderosa pine.
The fire is headed to an area that was thinned earlier this year, authorities said.
Tuesday, two heavy air tankers and two helicopters dropped fire retardant and water on and near the flames.
