PHOENIX — A 58-year-old man collapsed and died while working at an Amazon facility in Goodyear, according to police and a company official.
At about 9:30 a.m. Sept. 13, officers responded to a business near Bullard Avenue and Van Buren Street after calls reporting a man collapsed while working, according to Sgt. Hawkins Mann, spokesperson for the Goodyear Police Department.
Amazon spokesperson Louie Tran confirmed the man was an Amazon employee.
Employees had already begun lifesaving efforts when emergency personnel arrived and continued those efforts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Mann said.
The preliminary investigation found no indication of suspicious or criminal circumstances, Mann said. The identity of the man had not been released as of Sept. 14.

The company was supporting the worker’s family and employees in Goodyear, Tran said.
"We're deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague," Tran said in a statement.
Amazon closed the remainder of the day shift and the following night shift after learning of the incident, Tran said. The company also said it was working to provide employees access to grief counselors.
Amazon’s public tour website lists its GYR1 fulfillment center near Bullard Avenue and Yuma Road in Goodyear near the Phoenix Goodyear Airport. The company described the site as a robotics sortable facility where employees ship items smaller than a conventional microwave while working alongside robots.
Amazon has operated in Arizona since 2007 and now has dozens of fulfillment, sorting and delivery facilities across the state.
